S2's are the Intelligence and Security Officer for Military Units. This is often a thankless job, where they receive little training.

Background

Many people often get a COUNTRY Clearance confused with a mission in the G2 or S2 security office.  Many are thinking personnel security clearance is similar.  That is very wrong.  Country clearances are doctrinally done in the G3 or S3.  It is part of an operation, hence the 3 office.

 

The G2 and S2 provide updated information and intelligence pertaining to the traveler's country upon request. Also, if the traveler is SCI read on, than the traveler has a reporting requirement to their SSO.

 

Many of these issues get confusing and causes problems when super troopers try to make things work even if not in their expertise or lane. Let the correct people, who have the current changes work the issues!  It will save you sorrow later.
